The Pharmacy Department of Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine is a national training base for the advantagescharacteristics of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a national base for the inheritance of TCM processing techniques,a training base for clinical pharmacists in TCM under the Chinese Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is also a construction unit for the national TCM advantageous specialty (clinical pharmacy), a key TCM specialty in Jiangsu Province,the host of the Jiangsu Provincial TCM Pharmaceutical Affairs Quality Control Center. In 2024, it was selected as a national TCM advantageous specialty (clinical pharmacy) construction unit.
The department places great emphasis on scientific research, teaching,talent cultivation, aiming to build a high-quality pharmaceutical team. Currently, it has 11 national TCM characteristic technology inheritance talents, 1 famous TCM practitioner in Jiangsu Province, 5 TCM backbone talents in Jiangsu Province, 4 talents of the Jiangsu "333" Project, 1 national veteran pharmacist inheritor, 1 Jiangsu provincial veteran pharmacist inheritor,1 Nanjing municipal veteran pharmacist inheritor. The department has won the second prize in the national pharmaceutical industry competition for the TCM pharmacist group,both individualteam first prizes in the Jiangsu Provincial Pharmaceutical Industry Vocational Skills Competition for the TCM pharmacist group, with 2 individuals awarded the title of "Jiangsu Technical Expert". The department has 287 formal employees, including 7 PhDs, 95 masters, 1 doctoral supervisor,12 master supervisors. In the past three years, the department has undertaken more than 20 national (provincial) scientific research projectspublishes an average of over 70 academic papers annually in SCIcore journals.
The department is committed to leveraging the unique advantages of TCM, innovating cooperation models for authentic medicinal material bases, ensuring the quality of TCM decoction pieces from the source of planting to processing. It has establishedcooperated with authentic medicinal material planting bases covering 350,000 mu across 27 provinces including Guizhou, Anhui, Gansu,Ningxia, with over 180 varieties. The department routinely uses more than 700 types of decoction pieces, with a daily usage of 20 tons. TCM decoction pieces, as the most importantcharacteristic treatment method in TCM hospitals, are not only used for daily treatments but also widely applied in TCM preparations, ointments, decoction services, personalized special processing,"winter disease summer treatment" acupoint application therapies, which are highly favored by patients. The TCM preparation laboratory is a level three laboratory under the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, having obtained 10 new drug clinical approvals4 new TCM drug certificates. In recent years, it has successfully registered over 60 varieties of traditional preparations.
The department is dedicated to applying new technologies to enhance the level of intelligent pharmacy. Through the internet hospital, it has created a "cloud pharmacy", providing over 300,000 online pharmaceutical services annually, building a "online + offline" service model,promoting a new pattern of pharmaceutical services. In cooperation with China Post, it has established a "shared express TCM pharmacy", innovating the pharmaceutical service model. It has also innovatively developed a quality control system for TCM decoction, with one code per person, strictly regulating the operation time of each procedure,enabling full traceability of decoction quality.
For many years, the Pharmacy Department has adhered to the patient-centered service concept, always prioritizing the maintenance of peoples healthensuring the safetyeffectiveness of patient medication. It actively monitors adverse drug reactions, with the qualityquantity of reports ranking at the top in the province. Through the developmentconstruction of a rational drug use system, it has achieved intelligent pharmacy full-process management.
