Department Scale

The Department of Otolaryngology at Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine currently has 47 beds14 outpatient consultation rooms (10 at the main campus on the 13th floor, 1 at the Famous Doctor Hall,3 at Zidong campus). Additionally, the department includes the studio of National Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Master Professor Gan Zuwang. It is equipped with large-scale medical devices such as computer-based audiometers, tympanometers, fiber-optic laryngoscopes, nasalsinus endoscopes, Zeiss surgical microscopes, sleep apnea monitors, nasal resistance meters,voice analysis systems.

The department currently employs 21 active physicians9 retired rehired physicians, including 13 chief physicians, 5 associate chief physicians, 6 attending physicians,6 resident physicians. The team also includes 1 postdoctoral fellow, 8 PhD holders, 4 PhD candidates,8 masters degree holders. Additionally, there are 3 doctoral supervisors4 masters supervisors.

Specialized Diseases DiagnosisTreatment
With over 60 years of inheritance, innovation,development, the department has established three subspecialties: otology, rhinology,laryngology. Its clinical expertise lies in the treatment of diseases such as allergic rhinitis, voice disorders, chronic pharyngitis, chronic sinusitis, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (adultschildren), oral ulcers, tinnitus,hearing loss. Based on the excellent therapeutic outcomes for these diseases, the department has independently developed various in-house proprietary preparations, including Bimin Mixture, Biyuan Mixture, Bimin Mixture II, Shenmei Lozenges, Runhou Kaiyin Granules, Qingyan Herbal Tea, Huanting Pills, Huangbai Ear Drops,Erhan Ning Granules, all of which have shown remarkable clinical efficacy.

Distinctive Advantages

Under the influence of National TCM Master Professor Gan Zuwang, the department has developed unique therapies with a competitive edge in the field, such as "Shock Therapy""Xie Li Tian Kan Method" (for tinnitushearing loss treatment), "Desensitization Decoction""Allergen Elimination Decoction" (for allergic rhinitis treatment), "Spleen StrengtheningQi Nourishment Method""GentleNourishing Method" (for chronic pharyngitis), etc.

The department also routinely employs TCM-based external treatment techniques, such as "Sanfu Patches" for treating winter diseases in summer, press needleembedded needle therapies for various types of rhinitis, Tongyong Xiaozhong Powder for acute pharyngeal inflammation, Yangyin Shengji Powder for recurrent oral ulcers, sphenopalatine ganglion acupuncture for treating various rhinitis types, acupoint injection therapy for tinnitushearing loss, herbal nebulization therapy for acutechronic pharyngolaryngitis, etc.

● In 2002, designated by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as the only national key specialty unit in TCM otolaryngology.

● In 2010, recognized as the "Continuing Education Base for TCM Otolaryngology" by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The department has a distinguished team, including 1 National TCM Master, 1 Jiangsu Province expert in integrated TCM and western medicine, 2 Jiangsu Province TCM Masters, 1 National Outstanding TCM Clinical Talent, 1 Jiangsu Province Outstanding TCM Clinical Talent, 1 Second-tier talent in Jiangsu "333 High-Level Talent Training Project", 1 Third-tier talent in Jiangsu "333 High-Level Talent Training Project."

Ø Scientific Research:

The department has undertaken 29 national-provincial-level research projects19 bureau-level projects. It has published over 700 academic papers, obtained 6 national patents,received 6 scientifictechnological awards. The department has authoredtranslated 35 academic monographscontributed to 27 textbooks for higher education in TCM, including the national "14th Five-Year Plan" textbook TCM Otolaryngology. It has served as chief editor for 5 textbooks, associate editor for 11 textbooks,editorial board member for 11 textbooks.
