Introduction to the Nursing Department of Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine

Since the establishment in 1954, the nursing team at Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine has been steadfastly integrating the cultural essence of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) nursing with the professional core of modern nursing science. The nursing work not only showcases the unique charm of TCM nursing but also reflects the advanced concepts of modern nursing, earning widespread influenceacclaim within the national TCM nursing system.

Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine is the cradle of TCM nursing education in China. In 1958, it founded the first TCM nursing school nationwide, pioneering nursing education. In the same year, it compiled the first "TCM Nursing Science" textbook in China, filling the gap in domestic TCM nursing education materials. In 1979, it was the first in the country to restore secondary specialized education in TCM nursing, laying a solid foundation for long-term development of the nursing discipline in the hospital. With the continuous improvement of the TCM nursing theoreticaleducational systems, the Nursing Department has gradually built a professional team with a reasonablestable structure, comprehensively planningrefining disciplinary constructiontalent cultivation systems.

The department pioneered a nursing quality management system supported by "information-driven" approachesguided by "nursing quality-sensitive indicators"—the "Matrix Clinical Nursing Quality ConstructionEvaluation System”. This system deeply cultivates TCM nursing clinical practicetheoretical research, promotes the integration of nursing educationscientific research, expands the connotation of high-quality nursing services,is dedicated to building a distinctive TCM nursing brand. In 2023, the nursing discipline ranked the first in the national academic influence ranking of TCM hospitals. In May 2024, it was approved as a "National TCM Advantage Specialty Construction Unit" by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

By the end of 2024, the hospital owns a total of 1,722 nursing staff. The Nursing Department is led by 1 director, 1 deputy director,8 chief nurses. The main hospital is dividedsix nursing sections: Surgery, Internal Medicine (Internal Medicine 12), Disinfection Supply Center, OutpatientEmergency,Critical Care. The hospital has achieved homogeneous management across multiple campuses, including Zidong, Zhongshan,Jiangning, under the "one hospital, multiple campuses" model.
